There is something truly magical about DC cherry blossoms during sunrise. Arielle and Jake were filled with JOY at 7AM and were ready to get some amazing cherry blossom photos!

Our photo session was on the perfect day. The warm temperature, the glowing sun, and the beautiful blossoms. The only drawback was the huge crowd! Luckily, as a DC local photographer I know some perfect spots where we got stunning photos that captured just the couple beautifully.

Arielle had a vision for this engagement session. She wished to capture the fantasy look of the cherry blossoms! In Spring, the cherry blossoms transform Washington DC into a magical location. The cherry blossoms create a dreamy setting that perfectly frames each photo. They make for a stunning backdrop in the photos!

The Cherry Blossom Trees of Tidal Basin

There are about 3,800 cherry trees around Tidal Basin! These trees have a rich history. They are a variety called Yoshino Cherry Trees and were gifted to the United States by the Mayor of Tokyo in 1912. Remarkably some of these trees are over a century old and date back to the 1912. These older trees have characterful twisted trunks and gracefully arching branches. The fusion of the weathered branches and fresh spring blooms serve as a beautiful metaphor for enduring love!

The special thing about the blooms on these cherry trees is that they are actually a very soft shade of pink rather than vibrant pink. This special soft shade of pink is what creates the atmosphere that feels like a fairytale. This is especially true during sunrise portrait sessions!
