Washington DC transforms into a magical location during the cherry blossom season! Sydney and Camden chose this enchanting setting for their spring engagement session. Sydney had a vision for their engagement session. She wanted the fairytale look of the cherry blossoms combined with the richness of Washington DC. The cherry blooms created a dreamlike canopy that framed the photos. This made for a stunning backdrop! The dreamy cherry blossoms created the perfect frame for the photo session.

We began our session along Tidal Basin, where the pink cherry blossoms arch over the walkway and water. The Washington Monument peeked over the trees. This added to the beautiful background. Sydney and Camden loved the fairytale look of these photos!

The Enchanting Yoshino Cherry Blossoms

The cherry trees around Tidal Basin are mainly Yoshino cherry trees. These trees have a rich history! They were gifted to the United States by the Mayor of Tokyo in 1912. There are about 3,800 cherry trees around Tidal Basin. The blooms on these trees are actually a very soft shade of pink rather than vibrant pink. This soft pink is what creates the atmosphere that seems almost otherworldly. This is especially true during sunrise portrait sessions!

Remarkably some of these trees are over a century old and date back to the 1912. These older trees have characterful twisted trunks and gracefully arching branches. The fusion of the weathered branches and fresh spring blooms serve as a beautiful metaphor for enduring love!

A Secret Cherry Blossom Path

There is a little known enchanting spot along the Tidal Basin. It is just a little off the main path. The area has a grassy walkway and rows of cherry blossom trees. The rows of Yoshino cherry trees have grown toward each other over the years and their branches intertwine to form a natural archway of blooms! This hidden gem of a location creates a very romantic settings for engagement photos. My favorite part about this spot is that it offers stunning photo opportunities in any weather condition! On bright sunny days, the light creates a dreamy glow around the blossoms. On cloudy days, this spot creates a soft romantic look. This is perfect for engagement photos!
